In 1916 Canon G H P Glossop undertook the task of arranging the parochial affairs in the parish of Wheathampstead. The death of the last curate meant that the living became vacant. From his residence at Romeland House, St Albans, Cannon Glossop worked with the churchwardens of Wheathampstead regarding the stipend. Apsley Cherry-Garrard (assistant zoologist, British Antarctic Expedition, 1910-1913) lived at Lamer Park adjacent to the parish.
