The National Freedom Council, established in 1984, grew out of the Plea for Justice Committee which formed in the wake of Lindy Chamberlain's conviction and life sentence in 1982. The Committee sought a judicial review of the Chamberlain case and that Lindy Chamberlain be released from prison pending the outcome of that review. The Council was also involved in other cases where forensic science and circumstantial evidence had majored in convictions.
