Biographical Information:

Susan C. Faludi is an author and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist. She wrote two well-known books: Backlash: The Undeclared War Against American Women in 1992, and Stiffed: The Betrayal of the American Man in 1999. In Backlash, Faludi argued that the 1980s saw a retreat from feminism, particularly highlighted via a spread of negative stereotypes concerning professional women. This work won her the National Book Critic's Circle Award in 1992. In Stiffed, Faludi argued that while the American man still occupies the primary seats of power in our society, most men have little power in their daily lives. She concludes by discussing the ways in which American society has negatively affected both men and women, and stressing that it is wrong to blame individual men for problems they did not cause, and from which they suffer as much as women.
