William A. Neiswanger was a prominent Topeka businessman in the real estate business. He was born in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, March 23, 1858, son of David and Nancy J. (Westfall) Neiswanger. William A. Neiswanger was reared at Mechanicsburg, where his father was a prominent citizen, engaged in a mercantile business. In 1879 he came to Kansas and entered into the wool growing business in Osborne and Russell counties. Previous to coming to Topeka, he spent one year in a real estate business at Luray, Kansas, and then spent two years in Topeka in the office of the State Board of Agriculture. Neiswanger was then involved with the Investment Trust Company, the City Real Estate Trust Company and the receivers of the Investment Trust Company for the succeeding 12 years. He then went into a real estate business at Kansas City, Missouri, remaining there two and a half years, before settling permanently in Topeka. Neiswanger became manager of The Capitol Real Estate Company. David Neiswanger, born in 1892, was the grandson of Martin Mohler and president of Neiswanger Co. Inc., a real estate firm. He was president of the Topeka Chamber of Commerce, and was instrumental in bringing Forbes Field, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and the Veterans Administration Hospital to Topeka. He also was chairman at Washburn University Board of Trustees and the Menninger Foundation. David Neiswanger died in 1963. [James L. King.
