Caleb Gannett (1745-1818, Harvard AB 1763) was Steward of Harvard College. Gannett was admitted to Harvard at the age of fourteen and received a Saltonstall Scholarship. Gannet preached in a variety of locations until he was appointed a Tutor of Natural Philosophy and Mathematics at Harvard in 1773. Although respected by the students, Gannett left Harvard to serve as an itinerant preacher during the Revolutionary War. He became Steward around 1780. After the death of his first wife, Gannett married Ruth Stiles, daughter of Yale president Ezra Stiles, on January 19, 1800. His only child from his second marriage, Ezra Stiles, was a member of the Harvard Class of 1820.
