Petersen, Karen Daniels
Variant namesThe interest of Karen Daniels Petersen (born ca. 1910) in Native Americans was sparked during childhood by her grandfather Asa W. Daniels and her great uncle Jared W. Daniels, who had come to Minnesota in the 1850s as U.S. government physicians to the Dakota Indians. In the 1950s Petersen began purchasing traditional Ojibwe crafts from residents of northern Minnesota reservations for resale through St. Paul churches. She collected and researched Indian artifacts for the Science Museum of Minnesota (1958-1964); and beginning in the 1960s, she authored a number of articles and books on Plains and Ojibwe Indians.
