Frantz, John B.

John B. Frantz (1932- ) is an emeritus member of Penn State's Department of History, with a special interest in Pennsylvania during the Colonial and Revolutionary War periods. Frantz was born in New Haven, Connecticut. He secured his bachelor's degree from Franklin and Marshall College in 1954, and his master's degree and doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania in 1956 and 1961, respectively. Frantz began his work at Penn State as an Instructor in American History from 1961-1963. He became an assistant professor in 1963, an associate professor in 1966, and a senior member of the graduate faculty in 1970. In 1967 Frantz served as a Research Fellow at the Yale University Divinity School. Frantz is a member of the board of directors for the Pennsylvania German Society and is a former president of the Pennsylvania Historical Association. He is also a member of the American Historical Association and Phi Alpha Theta. He co-edited the monographs Pennsylvania Religious Leaders (1986), Beyond Philadelphia: The American Revolution in the Pennsylvania Hinterland (1998), and In Search of Peace and Prosperity: New Settlements in Eighteenth-Century Europe and North America (1999).
