Founded in September of 1945, the Gary Urban League is a civil rights organization which promotes African American economic and social welfare and seeks to improve race relations in Gary, Indiana. The League also maintains a research staff to study the housing, health, educational, and employment opportunities of Gary's African American residents. Throughout its history, the Gary Urban League has sought to use mediation to end workplace, housing, and education discrimination.
