Origins of John Dagworthy are unknown; spent part of his adult life in New Jersey; served in King George's War and the French and Indian War; moved to Worcester County, Md., which became Sussex County, Del., when boundary was resurveyed in 1767. In Delaware, Dagworthy was active in public affairs. During the Revolution, served on the Sussex County Committee of Safety and in the militia, in which he became a brigadier general.
