Myra Hunter was born c1934 in Scotland. She attended the Glasgow & West of Scotland College of Domestic Science (Incorporated) , Glasgow, Scotland between 1954 and 1957 when she studied for her Student Diploma Group 1 in Teaching. During this time she studied cookery and needlework. She returned to the college between 1965 and 1966 to upgrade her qualification to Group 3 and during this time she studied dressmaking.
