Captain John Laskey was a member of the Wernerian Society of National History at Edinburgh. In addition to the account of the Hunterian Museum, he was author of A description of the series of medals struck at the National medal mint by order of Napoleon Bonaparte (London, 1818), and several papers in miscellaneous collections.
The Hunterian Museum of the University of Glasgow first opened in 1807, and is the oldest public museum in Scotland. It was endowed by the surgeon John Hunter, F.R.S. (1728-1793), and houses his large collection of material relating to anatomy, pathology, osteology and natural history. Since its inception the Museum has acquired other specimens to suppliment Hunter's collection.
