Born in Hartford, Conn. 29 Nov. 1820; moved with his family to Black Rock, where they resided for several years. Graduated from Union College in 1839; studied law in Buffalo with Horatio Shumway, and was admitted to the bar in 1843. Norton served as city attorney, surrogate of Erie County, and U.S. collector of customs.
