Oneal, Zibby, 1934-
Variant namesElizabeth (Zibby) Oneal was born March 17, 1934, in Omaha Neb. She married a plastic surgeon and became a lecturer in English at the U. of Michigan. She did not begin her writing career until she had married and had two children. As she began to write stories for them she discovered that she liked to write, and had the talent for it. Her novels for young adults, exhibit a depth and complexity that is rare in any kind of fiction. They have been praised for their sensitive and perceptive portrayals of adolescents. She has received a number of awards and honors for her work.
