Louisiana State University's Center for Coastal, Energy & Environmental Resources was created in 1991, but changed its name to the School of the Coast & Environment in 2001. It has two academic departments: the Department of Environmental Sciences and the Department of Oceanography & Coastal Sciences. It conducts research in oceanography, wetland and environmental studies, hurricanes, modeling and remediation, and the management of coastal resources.
