Zellerbach was German-born businessman who immigrated to Philadelphia, and then to Calif. with his brother, Marks Zellerbach, settling in 1856 in Moore's Flat, Nevada County. Here they engaged in several business enterprises together, including a banking house called Marks & Company, and a water ditch company. After these businesses failed, Anthony Zellerbach and his family relocated to San Francisco in 1868, where he began his paper distribution company which eventually developed into Crown Zellerbach Company.
