Leiper Railroad.
The Leiper Railroad, the second railway to be constructed in the United States, was actually a tramway built in 1809 by Thomas Leiper, financier of Philadelphia, to transport stone from his quaries in eastern Delaware County, PA. It operated until ca. 1830.
