Pennsylvania Railroad Company. Illinois General Division. Office of General Superintendent.
The Illinois General Division was created on March 1, 1920, as a sub-unit of the Northwestern Region. It embraced the territory between Fort Wayne, Ind., on the east and Chicago and Effner, Ind. on the west, and included the Chicago Terminal, Fort Wayne and Logansport Divisions. The chief officers of the Illinois General Division were General Superintendents W.B. Wood (1920-1923) and H. H. Garrigues (1923-1924). As traffic was lighter on the western end of the system, it was discovered that this extra level of management was redundant, and the Illinois General Division was abolished on January 16, 1924, after which the division superintendents reported directly to the regional general manager in Chicago.
