Dunkenlau, listed as Herman or Harmon Dunklow, in the Michigan Soldiers and Sailors Index, enlisted in Co. A, 26th Michigan Infantry at age 27 in Centreville on Aug. 12, 1862 and was mustered on Sept. 11, 1862. He was discharged on a surgeon's certificate of disability at Philadelphia (Pa.) on June 3, 1865 due to wounds received at Deep Bottom (Va.) on Aug. 16, 1864.
