Henry Charles Sicade was a prominent Puyallup Indian in Pierce County, WA. He was born 12 Feb. 1866 on the Puyallup Reservation in Washington. His father was Charles Sicade, who had served as scout in the United States Army. When Henry was 13, he became an orphan. He stayed in Tacoma a short time until he could raise money to move to Forest Grove, OR. Henry attended the Pacific Academy and later, Pacific University. He served in the military 3 years. After his health began to break down, he decided to head east. He worked his way East working as a cowboy. He visited Minneapolis, Chicago, Ann Arbor, Detroit, Maine and New York State. When he was 17, he was elected to the Council of the Puyallup Tribe and was a life member. About 1891, Henry C. Sicade met and married Alice Elizabeth Lane. Alice was born 20 Sept. 1877 to Thomas Lane (Quoyoupcud), the last chief of the Puyallup Indian tribe. Throughout their lives, the Sicades were very active in their community. Henry had been elected Chief of the Puyallup Indian tribe but did not serve. He was a past chairman of both the state and county school directors, past chairman and a member for more than 25 years of the Fife School District. He was a life member of the Washington State School Director's Association and served under Mrs. Josephine Corliss Preston for 15 years. He served on the state educational board for Indian scholarships, was general manager of the Jefferson Orphanage near Kent, and was a past president of the Pierce County Pioneers. He also farmed on land in Pierce County, WA. Henry and Alice had three sons and three daughters. Henry C. Sicade passed away 14 Dec. 1938. Alice Lane Sicade passed away 8 Mar. 1965.
