Elise Fellows White was a Skowhegan, Me., violin prodigy, poet, and writer. She was born Mary "May" Elise Fellows in Skowhegan; attended the New England Conservatory in Boston at age 10 and also studied in Vienna and attended Colby College. In 1895-1896 toured the U.S. and Canada playing the violin. In 1898 she married Bruce White, a mine operator in British Columbia, and after her marriage lived in Nelson, B.C., for 10 years during which time she had two sons. In 1908 she returned to Skowhegan so that her sons could attend school. Her husband Bruce died in Nelson in 1918 of influenza. The remainder of her life was spent between Maine and New York. She made a living writing poetry and articles on various topics.
