Evans, Franklin B., 1922-

Franklin B. Evans was born in Chicago, Illinois, on February 9, 1922. He obtained his A.B. in business (1943), M.B.A. in marketing (1954), and Ph.D. in business (1959), all from the University of Chicago.

After serving in the U.S. Army in China for two years during World War II (1943-1945). Evans completed his education while working in several positions, primarily with two brewing companies. He taught at the University of Chicago (1959-1964) and the University of Hawaii (1964-1969) before coming to Northwestern in 1969 as professor of advertising in the Medill School of Journalism.

Evans most important research dealt with consumers choices of automobiles. which had been the subject of his doctoral dissertation. An article he authored on the subject in 1959 aroused considerable discussion. Evans received one of the first three Ford Foundation Fellowships to assist research for this dissertation.

Evans married Barbara Both in 1943 and had four children, Mary (1946), Amy (1948), Geoffrey (1950), and Christopher (1951).
