The establishment of Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, Ind. was approved by Congress in 1903 and named in 1906 after the former U.S. President from Indiana. The facility was an Army post until 1948, when it came under control of the Air Force. In 1951 the Army again took control of the facility, and it became home to the Army Finance School and Army Finance Center. In 1991, the Department of Defense slated Fort Benjamin Harrison for closure in 1995, but some of the facility will remain as part of the Army Reserve complex.
