Hull, John Albert Tiffin, 1841-1928.
Lawyer, Civil War officer, Iowa government official and U.S. congressman. Hull served with the 23rd Iowa Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. He entered politics as a Republican Party member and served at the state level as Secretary of the Senate (1872-1880), Secretary of State (1878-1884), and Lt. Governor (1885-1889). He served as the representative for Polk and Davis counties in the U.S. Congress (1891-1911) during which time he chaired the Committee on Military Affairs. After his retirement from political service, he resumed his career as a lawyer in Washington, D.C.
