A native of Tennessee, William S. Glass came to Texas about 1845. He became a resident of Victoria, where he remained the rest of his life. A lawyer, Glass served on the town’s first school committee. He was appointed a receiver for the Confederate government during the Civil War, in charge of the disposal of confiscated property.
