Ward, Frederick Charles, 1900-1990
Furniture designer. Began designing and manufacturing furniture in 1927. In 1931 Ward was asked by the Myer Emporium to open a modern furniture department. After World War II Ward began lecturing at the newly established School of Architecture at Melbourne University as well as operating a private furniture design business. From 1949 to 1961 Ward was design consultant to the Australian National University. Ward was also instrumental in founding the Industrial Design Institute of Australia and the Industrial Design Council of Australia.
