Reverend John Hughes Williams (fl. 1812-1840) was rector of Llangadwaladr, Anglesey, from 1824 to 1868. He graduated with a BA from Jesus College, Oxford in 1819 having completed his education with the financial assistance of his uncle, another Anglesey clergyman, the Reverend Lewis Hughes, who at various times was rector at Llanfechell, Llanrhuddlad and Llangadwaladr.
Material in the collection shows that Reverend Hughes Williams seems to have been in financial difficulties at various times in his life. Reverend Lewis Hughes often acted as mentor and advisor to his nephew on life and career matters and he was also advised by his close friend and confidante, another Anglesey clergyman, the Reverend John Jones who was curate at Bodedern and Holyhead, and later rector of Llanfigel and Llanfachreth.
