Carter, Thomas Michelle, 1841-1922.
Thomas Michelle Carter, Confederate soldier and merchant, was born in 1841, in Columbus, Georgia, and died in 1922, in Atlanta, Georgia. He joined the army in Columbus, Georgia, as a private in Co. G, 2nd Regiment, Georgia Infantry and was stationed on the Georgia coast (1861), and in Virginia (1861-1862). He transferred to Nelson's Independent Cavalry Company and was in Kentucky, Tennessee (fall, 1862), Mississippi (spring, 1863), Georgia (July, 1864) and north Alabama and Tennessee (November 1864). He apparently was stationed near Manassas and took part in the Battle of Franklin. He later became a merchant in Albany, Georgia.
