Phi Delta Kappa. Pennsylvania State University Chapter

Hide Profile

Phi Delta Kappa at Penn State is a local chapter of the national professional education fraternity. At the beginning of the spring semester, all undergraduates with at least a 3.0 GPA pursuing a major in education are nominated to the fraternity. Phi Delta Kappa had its beginnings in Indiana University on January 24, 1906. From the beginning, the fraternity defined itself as a professional association committed to the scientific study of education and to the ideals of research, service, and leadership as binding upon its members individually. Its sphere of influence has broadened with its growth and its increasing maturity until it is now recognized as a member of the American Council of Education, the National Advisory Council on Educational Freedom, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Educational Press Association and, by reason of its activities in cooperation with and contributions to the work of the National Education Association and the American Association of School Administrators, it may be considered as having a very definite functional relationship to them. Through its individual members, it is represented on practically all of the outstanding national and regional committees in education and similarly, on the governmental bodies of the organizations functioning in the field of education.
