Joseph Bancroft was a cloth manufacturer and Hicksite Quaker from Wilmington, Delaware, who worked for the reunification of the Society of Friends in the 1860's and 1870's. He wrote a number of religious tracts and published a book, A Persuasive To Unity, which he published in 1874. At his death, Bancroft established a trust fund to secure the free circulation of this book amoug Quakers.

Joseph Bancroft (1803-1874) manufacturer of cotton cloth at Rockford, Delaware was born in 1803. In 1831 Bancroft began to manufacture cotton cloth at Rockford, near Wilmington, Del., and this continued as a private enterprise until 1865 when the partnership of Joseph Bancroft & Sons was formed. It operated under this name until 1889 when the firm became Joseph Bancroft & Sons Company, which continued until 1961 when it became Joseph Bancroft & Sons Co. Inc., a division of Indian Head Mills, Inc.
