John Whiteside (1680-1729), son of George Whiteside of Kirkham, Lancaster, entered Brasenose College, Oxford, in 1696 (B.A., 1700; M.A., 1704). He was chaplain of Christ Church, Oxford, and Keeper of the Ashmolean Museum from 1714 until his death. He was made Fellow of the Royal Society in 1718. Whiteside died on 12 October 1729.
