Mosse, Baskett, 1917-1983

Baskett P. Mosse was born in Henderson, Kentucky, on September 9, 1917. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Tulsa at Oklahoma in 1941 and his master's degree in journalism from Northwestern University in 1943.

Mosse was a sportswriter for the Tulsa Daily World from 1934 to 1941. He served as news editor for the National Broadcasting Company in Chicago from 1941 until 1946, when he joined the Northwestern faculty as a professor of broadcasting in the Medill School of Journalism. He remained at Northwestern University until his retirement in 1982.

Mosse played a key figure in the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications. He was a member of the group for more than twenty five years and at one time served as executive secretary of the council's accrediting committee.

Mosse hung himself in June 17, 1983 at his summer home in Crandon, Wisconsin. He was survived by his wife, Mae, his son Richard and his daughter Nancy.
