The Clyde Estuary Amenity Council was founded in 1969 with the object of taking an interest in all new developments in the Clyde Estuary, and of providing informed criticism, including taking an active role in public enquiries, on the balance between industrial development and environmental considerations. A Chair was appointed from the staff of the University of Glasgow to take an impartial view of the conflicting interests under the Council's umbrella.
