Baglow grew up in Los Angeles near the movie-making capital of Hollywood. The celebrity-worship common in an area filled with celebrities sparked Baglow's interest in the human need for heroes and role models and led to her project on the celebrity status of General Authorities. A General Authority is one of a small group of male Priesthood leaders that interpret and receive doctrine and act as spiritual guides for the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They are revered in much the same way as the Pope would be, and have become celebrities within the Church. Baglow attended Brigham Young University.
