The Florida State Music Teachers Association was founded in Jacksonville in 1934 to encourage the study of music, to maintain teaching standards and to advocate for its members. Local organizations are grouped into nine districts and are affiliated with the Florida state association which, in turn, is affiliated with the Music Teachers National Association, Inc.
