Author, editor, columnist, biographer. Born in Winfield, Kansas, on August 30, 1936. Received BS from University of Kansas (1958). Wrote biographies Charles H. Percy: A Political Perspective (1975) and Big Jim Thompson of Illinois (1979), for which he won the Award of Merit from the Illinois State Historical Society (1980).
Contributed to Illinois: Political Processes and Government Performance (1980). Editor for Herald and Review in Decatur, Illinois (1967-1968) and for Lindsay-Schaub Newspapers, Inc. also in Decatur (1968-1979). Executive editor of the Toledo Blade in Toledo, Ohio (1979-1981), and publisher at the Journal-American in Bellvue, Washington (1981- ).
