Moritz Schlesinger was born on September 19, 1886 in Magdeburg, Germany. During World War I, he was an import merchant. Toward the end of 1918, Schlesinger served as a representative of military and civilian prisoners. From 1918 until his emigration to the United States in 1933, he was the German Foreign Ministry's expert on trade and financial relations with the Soviet Union. He died on February 10, 1974 in Washington, D.C.
