John Hill was born in Villa Grove, Ill. on November 12, 1942 and enlisted in the Army on March 18, 1943 at Peoria, Ill. At the time of enlistment, he was unmarried, and had completed four years of high school. Hill recieved basic anti-aricraft artillery training near San Diego, Calif. before joining the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colo. where he was assigned as needed to Battery B of the 604th Field Artillery Battalion; Company A of the 727th Antitank Battalion; Company A of the 10th Antitank Battalion. He also served at Camp Swift, Tex. before being sent to Italy where he fought with the 86th Infantry Regiment. Hill received the Bronze Star Medal for his actions in Italy and attained the rank of Corporal. He died in Charleston, Ill. on July 30, 2010.
