Ray Leon Newburn (1933- ), astronomer and noted lunar and planetary scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where he participated in the development of plans for lunar and planetary exploration and planetary models for mission design; served as JPL representative to National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Space Science Steering Committee's Astronomy Subcommittee; and helped establish the Table Mountain Observatory in 1962.
