Saunders, Rolfe S (Rolfe Smith), 1832-1907

Rolfe S. Saunders was educated at the University of Virginia and worked as a newspaper editor and experimental farmer. In 1855 Saunders was co-editor of the Memphis Daily Eagle, a Whig paper. He also served as editor of the Herald in Columbia, Tenn., and worked at the Memphis News-Scimitar. Saunders was appointed post-master of memphis by President Lincoln on March 27, 1861. He died in 1907 as the result of a street car accident in Nashville, Tenn.
