Arthur P. Bagby, a native of Alabama, was a general in the Confederate States Army. He studied law and graduated from West Point in 1852, moved to Texas, and served in the Trans-Mississippi Department as lieutenant colonel of the 7th Texas Cavalry. He served as brigadier general in the 4th Texas Cavalry Brigade and fought in the Red River Campaign in Louisiana, 1864. After the Civil War, Bagby practiced law in Halletsville, Texas.
