William S. Forbes was an accomplished artist (both with pen and brush) and an instrumentalist before World War II. He studied art, painting, sculpture, engraving, etc., in Europe from 1938-1939. During World War II, he was given the rank of Technical Sergeant-Camoufleur, Headquarters (HQ), Company C, 602nd Engineer Camouflage Battalion and served in the European Theater of Operations (ETO).
