Samuel Popper, B.A. (1947) Brooklyn College of the City of New York, M.A (1948), Ph.D. (1952) New York University. Associate professor (1958), professor (1958) of education at the University of Minnesota. Samuel H. Popper was born on December 29, 1916 in Szighet, Hungary. He earned his B.A. from Brooklyn College of the City of New York in 1947. He earned his M.A. (1948) and Ph.D. (1952) from New York University. Before joining the faculty at the University of Minnesota, Samuel Popper worked as history/social studies teacher at the high school level in New York City (1947-1949) and St. Paul, Minnesota (1954-1956). He also taught at Queens College, New York (1949-1950) and served as the director of student interest activity programs at Como Park Junior High, St. Paul, Minnesota (1956-1958). Dr. Popper became an associate professor of education at the University of Minnesota in 1958. He became a full professor of educational administration and classics in 1968 and later appointed as professor of educational policy and administration. He retired as professor emeritus in 1986. In addition, Popper led the Minnesota School Facilities Council (MSFC), which was charged with ensuring better schools and facilities. He also was a co-founder of Group Health Plan, now HealthPartners, one of the largest not-for-profit HMO's in Minnesota. Samuel Popper died in Los Angeles on August 28, 2007.
