The Carnegie Institution of Washington, D.C., ran the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, in conjunction with the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences and later the Long Island Biological Association, from 1904 to 1962. The Institute also sponsored the Genetics Research Unit at the Laboratory from 1962-1973.
