Weatherly, Edward Christopher, 1855-1934

Dr. Edward Christopher Weatherly (1855-1934) was one of 13 children born to an aristocratic English family on June 2, 1855, in Portishead, Somerset, England. He graduated from Oxford University as a Doctor of Medicine. In 1888, he immigrated to the United States where he abondoned the practice of medicine to become a newspaper writer and an expert on mining matters. He lived in New York and California for several years before moving to Ouray, Colorado, in 1907. He invested in mines, traded in mining properties and became an authority on mining development and mining economics with particular reference to certain districts of the San Juan mining region in Colorado.
