The facility director, under the executive direction of the Commissioner of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, directs all functions of the Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute. The director is responsible for planning and directing the administrative, medical and clinical activities of the facility, reviews and approves recommendations from staff pertaining to all phases of treatment, physical environment, and the administrative management of the facility, and oversees fiscal/business transactions through the administrative officer.
