Bell, James Alvin, 1834-1863.
James Alvin Bell was a farmer in Kaneville, Illinois, until the outbreak of the Civil War he when enlisted in the 8th Illinois Cavalry in May, 1861. He was long engaged (but never married) to Augusta Anna Hallock Elliott, a schoolteacher from rural New York. Bell died at the Stanton Army Hospital in Washington, D.C. in October, 1863.
