Hide Profile

Felix Grundy Coats (c.1829-1916) traveled with his father from Henry County, Missouri, to the California gold fields in 1849. He spent the next year prospecting at Grass Valley, Bear River, and Placerville, California. Coats' father returned to Missouri in 1851, but he was joined in California by his brother Bill. The brothers travled from Diamond Springs to Contra Costa and finally Tassajara, California. Here they established a homestead along with the rest of their family, who had arrived from Missouri in the fall of 1852. Coats married Leona Doggett in 1860. He died in Tassajara on June 10, 1916.
