Benjamin Abbott Dickson (1897-1976) of Richmond, Va. was graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, and achieved the rank of colonel in the United States Army. He saw active duty in both world wars, serving in World War I with the American Expeditionary Forces in Siberia. Following World War I he attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology, graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering.

He was the father of Ariana Holliday Dickson Mangum (1928-2017)
