Schuch and Brucker were friends and political allies. Schuch, born Aug. 13, 1887 in Saginaw (Mich.), was educated in Saginaw, and owned and operated the Schuch Hotel. He was a mess sergeant for three Michigan National Guard (MNG) 32nd Regiment encampments at Grayling (Mich.) Schuch served in World War I as a recorder. He later served as Saginaw County sheriff, the Michigan House of Representatives, 1942-1945, and in the Michigan Senate, 1946-1950, representing Saginaw. Schuch was a Republican and member of many historical organizations and boards. The Clarke has several copies of the booklet, Michigan's Old Inn, documenting his hotel. Brucker, born June 23, 1894 in Saginaw was the son of Congressman Ferdinand Brucker. He was educated in Saginaw and earned a L.L.B. from the University of Michigan, 1916. He served in the Mexican Border Campaign of 1916 in the MNG Infantry, 33rd Regiment and in in the 166th Infantry, 442nd (Rainbow) Division in France, during World War I. Brucker served as Michigan Assist. Prosecuting Attorney, 1922-1929, Attorney General, 1929-1930, and Governor, 1931-1932. He was a Republican. Brucker died in 1968.
