Founded in 1914, the International City/County Management Association has a long history with Kansas, though its offices left Lawrence for Chicago in 1929, and subsequently moved from there to Washington D.C. in August, 1967. Th Association published its first professional Code of Ethics for City Managers at the 1924 conference in Montreal, Canada. Orin F. Nolting (1903-1997), a long-time Executive Director of the organization (1956-1967), and Director Emeritus, lived in Prairie Village, Kansas, a Kansas City suburb, and continued to work as a consultant on urban management matters after his retirement.
